Barnbrook have designed the latest John Foxx and the Maths album, Interplay. Having previously collaborated with John Foxx for the release of DNA, we were asked to work on Interplay. Referencing the title of the album (as well as mathematics and computer science), the front cover features a multicoloured Venn diagram.
Alluding to the analogue synthesisers that were used to create the album, we drew inspiration from 70s era book covers, scientific textbooks and early computer graphics. Referencing the name The Maths, the design features a selection of mathematical symbols; when laid out flat, the packaging itself takes the form of a + symbol.
The idea of creating complex music with simple machines informed the design, which features images of the NASA mainframe.
The album is out now and can be bought from amazon.
