We’ve just received delivery of our exhibition catalogue for on&on at La Casa Encendida, Madrid. Printed and bound in Madrid to a very high standard.
Curators Flora Fairbairn and Olivier Varenne selected 14 artists (including Martin Creed, Céleste Boursier Mougenot, Anya Gallaccio and Andy Goldsworthy) to explore the notion of ephemeral art in a gallery context. Each of the artworks exists only for the duration of the exhibition.
The title, on&on is inspired by Samuel Beckett’s play Not I. The design attempts to reflect the concept of the exhibition and the origin of it’s title. We wanted to create an object that felt precious, that changed over time and invited interaction. The gold cover scratches off to reveal images of an artwork decomposing. English and Spanish texts overlap, only becoming when viewed through coloured acetate. The text section is printed on lightweight bible paper in stark contrast to the thick gloss of the artwork section. Artist statements are presented as ephemeral printouts. The catalogue is accompanied by a pullout that documents each installation or performance.
The exhibition has been a huge success since it open a few weeks ago – it’s open until the 16th of January 2011. The catalogue is available from La Casa Encendida.
