Mason Sans is the sans-serif version of Mason Serif. Mason’s serif characters were transformed into an elegant and unusual humanist sans-serif. As with the original Mason, inspiration was drawn from architecture, but in the case of Mason Sans, the reference points include early European modernism and the early 20th-century buildings of London. Typographically, Mason sans is informed by the work of Edward Johnston and Eric Gill, two phenomenally important figures in British typography and a big influence in the formative college years of Jonathan Barnbrook.
Barnbrook is one of Britain’s most well-known and highly regarded independent creative studios, based in London. We work with a variety of clients across the globe and projects of varying scales. From overseeing the brand identity and environmental graphics of Art Basel to our much-discussed David Bowie album covers.
Barnbrook’s contribution to design was recognised with a retrospective at the Design Museum in London entitled Friendly Fire in 2007.
