The Bonnefanten is an arts museum in an idiosyncratic setting, based in an unusual building designed by Italian architect Aldo Rossi. The quirky architecture, key to the museum’s personality, inspired an outspoken typographic identity.

Illustrated architectural forms are bolted onto three different custom typefaces, each inspired by a different point of art history: they combine fluidly, illustrating how the museum exhibits classic and contemporary artwork side by side. Colour displays a similar mutability, with each colour having three variations (vivid, metallic and pastel) that combine to express a variety of tones.

Over a number of years we developed templates for museum materials, exhibition signage and advertising, as well as a number of other applications including Christmas cards, child-friendly exhibition supplements and a card game aimed at teenagers.
